The Truchas Library


The Truchas Library began offering services in the 1960's through 1971 on a limited basis. The NM State Library at the time also served the community with the "Red Van Book Mobile Service". In 1972 the building that was formerly the Mission School was converted into what is now the Truchas Library. The library became a full-service public library in 2016 through the NM State Library.

Truchas Library offers services throughout the communities of Truchas, Ojo Sarco, Cordova, Chimayo, and Penasco.   The library offers notary, FAX, copy and research services.  The library has a collection of 10,000 books, plus CDs and DVDs for check out.  There are 8 public computers and WiFi service.

Julie Trujillo, who has been with the library for 20 years, is the Director.  Julie has her certification with the NM State Library and is a Notary Public. She also provides an Early Literacy Reading program that includes STEM education for 3-5 year olds twice a week through the Truchas Preschool Program

Virginia Padilla is the Weaving Instructor and also a Notary Public, and has her certification with the NM State Library. John Herrera provides volunteer tech support.  There are usually two substitute librarians who work as needed. Patricia Putnam & Jasmine Cecelic.
